Rucksack Club Indoor Meets Programme Winter 2012.

Tuesday 9 October 2012. Adam Long

The most exciting rock climbing photographer of recent years and an accomplished nature photographer. As well as illustrating most of the classic Peak rock climbing guide books, Adam climbs with all the stars, and will regal us with photos and stories of climbs both in Britain, Norway and Yosemite with Leo Houlding and others. The second part of the evening will be an illustrated talk about the landscapes and flora of the Peak District.

Tuesday 13 November 2012 Andy Kirkpatrick

Unstoppable, hilarious, raconteur, mountaineer extraordinaire, Andy K will revisit the Rucksack Club.
Following his successful ‘Psychovertical’, ‘When Hell Freezes Over’ and ‘Off the Wall’ UK theatre tours, the multi-faceted, internationally acclaimed mountaineer and comedian Andy Kirkpatrick is our November guest at the Heatons Sports Club. This time Andy takes a slightly different tack, talking about his new book Cold Wars, a year in the writing, and the follow up to his best-selling book ‘Psychovertical’. Telling stories behind the climbs, as well as reading from the book and showing images and film, these smaller, more intimate talks retain the same level of humour, but also are perhaps a more honest window into the world of extreme climbing. Tales include many cold climbs, including his 15-day winter ascent of the Lafaille Route on the Petit Dru, a 1000m pillar in the Alps considered to be one of the most difficult climbs in Europe. Andy will be happy to sign any books on the night.
Time: 7.30pm
Members and under 18’s: £4.00
Non members and guests welcome: £8.00
Raffle and prizes.

Tuesday 4 December 2012 Doug Allan

In this show Doug takes you up close and personal with the animals that live in the wildest places on earth. Doug is an award winning film maker as well as a stills photographer. Doug takes his audience to the two frozen polar worlds – the Arctic and the Antarctic. Glorious pictures of the wildlife, polar bears, penguins and all the seals, the scenery and the people, with insights into how Doug prepares and copes with the short term of a six week film shoot at minus 30°C in search of polar bears.
